The Nutritional Value of the Word

Did you know that everything edible is not actually food? Just because your body can digest something, does not mean that it has any nutritional value to your body. For example, you can get ‘full’ off eating twinkies and Krispy Kreme donuts, but that doesn’t mean your body received any nutritional value at all. Hang in there with me while I prove this point.  Your mind tells your body that it is full, however, your body says it hasn’t received anything (of nutritional value). So what does your body do? It stores up extra because it thinks that it is starving. This is how people become fat and obese.

Everything you see, hear, or read, does not have (nutritional) value to your spirit. The only thing that is 100% spiritual value to your spirit is the Word of God. It will nourish your spirit, replenish your body, and renew your mind.  The pure Word of God is rare and hard to find in today’s society. Most people would rather watch Christian television or pick up a spiritual book as a shortcut.  In the same example I used above in which you could eat junk food and convince your body that it is full, people everyday do the same thing spiritually.  They watch hours of television and fill their spirit with meaningless junk. If you ate a gallon of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, you would have no room for spinach. In the same way, if you watched 3 movies back to back, you would have no room for Corinthians. Even if your mind cannot register it, your body craves spinach, its nutrients give it energy and rejuvenation , and life. Your spirit craves the Word. It needs the Word to live,  for faith, to resist the devil, and more.  The Word gives you insight and instruction when your mind does not know what to do or what decision to make. Are you a spiritually obese Christian today?

An obese person cannot do the things an athlete in top physical condition can do. They lack the energy, ability, and stamina to carry out certain tasks. Not because they don’t want to, but because of all the excess fat that they are carrying. In the same way, a spiritually obese person cannot do certain things that God has commanded them to do because of all the excess F.A.T (feelings,  attitudes, and thoughts) that they have accumulated through television, magazines, movies, internet.   They know they are supposed to pray daily, win the lost, love their neighbor, and read the Bible, but their F.A.T . will not let them.

So how do you become spiritually fit? Do everything in your power to have your feelings, attitudes, and thoughts, line up directly with God’s Word. Reject those things that contradict the Word. The biggest deception that the devil uses is to mix 99% truth with 1% lie.  It seems and sounds true and correct, but that 1% will kill you. Just ask Eve, everything the serpent told her was not a lie, but the part that was a lie, led to her destruction. Everyone that the devil has deceived over the past 6000+ years fell because they believed the 99% truth he spoke, and digested the 1% lie as well. It only takes one drop of rat poison to kill you, and in the spirit it only takes the1% lie to make you spiritually obese and render you ineffective.
