How to Prosper Financially in God’s System (part 1)

Today we deal with the mother of all controversial topics. Money. Money is a taboo subject in the church, even though Jesus spoke more about money and possessions than any other subject. This is a three part teaching. This first part is on God’s way vs. the world’s system. The second part is on how to give correctly, and why we should give. The third part is on how to receive from God.

Up until this point most of our ministry’s teachings have had to do mostly with evangelism, signs, and wonders, or divine healing. Yet the issue that I see in most places I go does not have to do with any of these. It has to do with money. People not having it, or having to make bad decisions because of the lack of it. Jesus introduced a new system of government, the kingdom of God in which there is no lack of any kind. So divine healing, family restoration, mental stability, are all a part of the kingdom of God, but do not forget about money.

Almost every Christian who goes to church gives during offering time. Most even know Luke 6:38, (give and it shall be given unto you.), which is what most Pastors quote during offering time. Jesus himself even quoted that anything you have given up for the kingdom you will receive hundredfold in this lifetime and the next (Mark 10:30). Yet very few Christians are actually living in ‘more than enough’. It is hard to be a blessing to someone else, if you barely have enough yourself.

So now I must warn you, this teaching is considered very controversial by many people, and some will get offended. Yet for most people reading it, it will be the most powerful and liberating teaching they have ever read. Is there untapped wealth of revelation hidden inside your offering envelope? Is there more to giving than you have witnessed? Financial teaching is one area that the devil fights tooth and nail, and rightfully so. If God’s people were truly free and would not need debt to finance their vision, the devil would be finished. So what usually happens when a preacher talks about money, the devil will retort and say, ‘All that preacher wants is your money’, and then they shut down and stop listening.

But in my case, I have absolutely nothing to gain by enlightening you, I am not receiving an offering from you and you are probably reading this for free off the Internet. So you can throw that argument out of the window.

In Matthew 6:24, Jesus states that no man can serve two masters. He makes a clear distinction between the world system of mammon, and the kingdom of God. So for any of this to make any sense to you, you must first settle in your heart that you are totally ditching the world system, and running after the kingdom of God.

So let’s first discuss the world system of mammon. In mammon, the central idea is that there are limited resources. In fact, it is a caste based system, starting with the ruling class (also known as the 1%), who know things about money such as interest, investments, and the fractional banking system; and do everything in their power to keep everyone else in darkness as to how it operates. That is why topics such as money and investing are never taught in school (even college.) Then there are the middle class and the poor. The middle class and the poor focus on things such as: a good education is the key to success, find a good company to work for, and then retire and live off the income saved. This is what they have been told, and they teach their children. I have nothing against education, I have a college degree myself. Yet I understand this is not the key to success. Information without revelation will just leave a person steeped in debt and having to work jobs that they hate just to stay afloat. The middle class and the poor are morbidly tied into debt in this system of mammon, with no ways to get out.  They are defined by mortgage notes, student loans, car notes and credit cards… it never ends.

God has a better way.

It seems like man is working tirelessly from his early twenties until his seventies just to make a living. Even if you take a vacation, you have to work 3x as hard when you come back just to catch back up. Of all the money you would have earned during these 50+ years of working, less than 2% of the population actually has anything to show for it, in terms of property owned, equity, or things of value outside of debt. This is also known as the rat race. Again, God has a better way.

This is what the whole Occupy movement was about. People began to realize the system was broken, that it was not fair, yet were powerless as to how to overcome it. They were helplessly trapped in a system that they hated, yet had to endure it just to ‘make a living’. But is there a spiritual side to all of this?

In the garden of Eden, when Adam sinned and fell short of God’s glory, he immediately became subject to Satan and the curse. The curse filled the earth. Man became subject to death, sickness, poverty, depression, and more as a result of sin. Yet what most people do not identify with the curse is actually the first thing that God spoke directly to Adam after he sinned. In Genesis 3:17, God says to Adam: ‘Cursed is the ground for your sake; in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life. Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, and you shall eat the herb of the field. In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground.’

Working, sweating and toiling all the days of a man’s life are all a result of this curse in Genesis. Living hand to mouth, check to check, and this is exactly how millions of people, even Christian people are living today thousands of years later. This why the lottery is so big. It’s not the dream of  buying a mansion or fancy cars. It’s the dream of  waking up and not having to go work in the morning and escape the world system, the rat race.

The good news is that God so loved you that He gave a solution, and sent His only begotten Son. Jesus (according 1 John 3:8) came to destroy the works of the devil, and the first thing he says in Luke 4:18, when He stands up to read from the prophet Isaiah is that, ‘he is anointed to preach the gospel to the poor’.

Jesus introduced the kingdom of God, a system that is superior to the world’s mammon. In His system, it does not matter what school you went to, who your parents are, or even your skin color. In fact, in the kingdom of God, your net worth is based upon who Christ is and what heaven has (which is limitless by the way). If you have faith, you can succeed in the kingdom of God. The kingdom of God is the answer to lack of finances, lack of health, or lack of anything.

So Jesus came and through his death you have been imparted with everything that heaven has to offer. You are now no longer subject to the earth curse, but have access to the riches and treasures of heaven. No more debt, no more lack, no more– But wait, that was 2000 years ago, why are people, even Christian people still struggling financially, living check to check??

Stay tuned for part 2 when we answer these questions…
