2 Ways to Soar Above Heaviness, Sadness, and Hurt

Our greatest strength as believers is the fact that we are hid in Christ. Once this is a reality, the devil cannot touch you. So how can he touch you? When you come out from hiding in Him. The way he typically gets Christians to come out from hiding is to get them focused on themselves. Appeal to their selfishness. This is the quickest way to feel heavy, depressed, and defeated.

Do you feel heavy today? Would you like to feel lighter? If this applies to you, by the time you finish reading this, you should be shouting for joy. The bottom line is that the devil is already defeated. He tries his hardest to make it seem like the battle is still going on, but it is not. It’s over, and he has lost.

Here are two ways you can be assured that you will not fall ensnared to the traps of the devil. He is a slick foe, and if you are not watchful, you could fall victim. So following these two will keep you safe. Earlier I said that selfishness is the root of all sin and defeat, so these two are a way that you can escape the evils of selfishness. Selfishness is like Kryptonite to believers.

1. Minister love to someone else

The quickest remedy out of heaviness or depression is to love your neighbor. Do a random act of kindness to someone you do not know. It is so rare these days to demonstrate love to another person that they will be totally floored by it. Go buy someone’s coffee at Starbucks or someone’s gas at the gas station. You could even take it a step further and lay hands on someone that needs to be healed. (this too is a form of love). Be God’s representation on the earth. I guarantee you will feel 1000 times better after you do it.

Here’s the key. Do this act of love without any expectation of anything in return. When you do something unexpected like this to someone, they usually expect you to ask them for something afterward. Just tell them that Jesus loves them, and sent you. This will totally melt their heart, and is the most effective way to share the gospel. Once this becomes a lifestyle, you will stay clear of selfishness its effects.

2. Praise and Worship

A praiser is never defeated! Why is praise and worship so important? It is vitally important to every believer because it immediately takes the focus off of you, and puts it on God. If you are worrying about your health or your finances, or your marriage… selfishness is slowly creeping in. This is then followed by weariness, sadness, and depresssion. There is then a big  giant arrow pointing down at you, that everyone in the spirit world can see (making you a target). But the moment that you turn that big arrow up toward heaven, by praising God, all of your heaviness will be lifted. And everyone in the spirit world can see this too. The last thing that the devil wants is to mess with someone that consistently praises God. Praise brings multitudes of angels on the scene.

Do you need joy today? Here is a surefire way to instantly have joy. According to Psalm 35:27, go and Shout for joy! Do what Troy? I am saying that if you need joy today, go on and shout for it! Praise Him with a loud voice, declare His goodness, and faithfulness, and lovingkindness. After prolonged praise you will find yourself being ushered into worship. Worship is acknowledging His Holiness- (the totality of God’s character). Worship is all about Him. In this place of intense worship all of your burdens will vanish. Even if the nothing different has happened in your situation, I guarantee you will be filled with completeness of Him, and it won’t even matter anymore.

If you can continually worship Him, whatever is troubling you will not stay long. Worship is a lifestyle. A lifestyle of constant victory.

Two years ago, I was in a situation in which I was terribly heartbroken. I was engaged to be married, and my fiance left me, just weeks before the wedding. The pain was deeper than any physical pain I had ever experienced. Yet I found that after intense praise and worship all the pain would go away. After a few days it would come back, so again I would just worship until the pain would disappear. Sometimes I spent hours in worship; a few times I would worship all night long. In these times of worship I would experience intimacy with God on a level I had never witnessed before. After a period of time my heart healed, and I had a newfound level of intimacy with my Heavenly Father. In that time I discovered that nothing can shake your peace when you are in true fellowship and union with the Father. The scripture became real to me, Isaiah 26:3 “Thou will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee”

Be encouraged, and know that God cannot fail you, will not leave you, and shall not forsake you!!!
