The Secret Key to Prophesying Accurately

Last weekend I had the pleasure of being invited to a prophetic conference in North Georgia, and I suddenly realized that I get asked many of the same questions wherever I go concerning prophecy. So I figured I would share the secret key to being able to prophesy effectively and accurately. First of all, every Christian should prophesy. That’s right, I said EVERY Christian. You have the ability, as the Holy Spirit is with you, and Paul says it over and over again in 1 Corinthians 14.

Now when I speak about prophesying, I’m not referring to you going up to someone, and telling them that within 5 days destruction in the form of a tornado is coming to their home. Nor am I talking about endtime prophecy, where we all try to guess who the antichrist is and when the rapture will take place. My desire is to ‘demystify’ prophesying and show you in a clear and concise way how it can be used to win people to Christ. To put it simply, to prophesy means to encourage, uplift, or exhort. Everything else in not prophesying, no matter how amazing it sounds or how accurate it is, if it does not encourage, uplift, or exhort. Now while you are prophesying, other gifts can be activated such as a word of knowledge (in which you suddenly know a key detail about a person’s past or present), a word of wisdom (a detail about a person’s future) or several of the other gifts of the Spirit. But I want to focus on the fact that it must encourage, uplift, or exhort. I never focus on the ‘gifts’ when I minister to people, as in is it this gift or that gift; I’ll let them debate that in seminary school or theology papers. I just flow in the Spirit. Unfortunately many people never step out because they feel they don’t have this gift or that gift, when in actuality, if you have the Holy Spirit you have everything you need.

Focusing on the gifts is like focusing on the leather seats, or power steering, or a certain type of engine of car. No, if you purchase the car, all of those features come with the car. If you are filled with the Holy Spirit, everything He has, you now have. Jesus did not possess any ability while on earth that you don’t have access to, thru the power of the Holy Spirit. People try to pick and choose gifts like it is some sort of spiritual buffet line or salad bar. Now some might feel more comfortable in the area of healing or in the area of prophecy because they have spent more time in that area, but if you step out by faith in areas you have not traditionally spent time in, you will become more balanced and be able to trust God in those new areas.

Now back to the secret key to being able to prophesy effectively and accurately. It is very possible that you can deliver a prophetic word to someone and it is as if Jesus himself was right there giving it to them, and transform their life forever. Someone can go from being suicidal, to feeling totally victorious all with a prophetic utterance from the Lord. So how is this possible? How do you hear key intimate details about someone, that only them and God know? The answer is so simple you probably stumble over it. It all works by love.

As you are filled with the love of God, it will cause you to share this love with others. Love them to such an extent that all you want to do is encourage, uplift, and exhort them. So how did Jesus move? How was he motivated? Over and over, throughout the gospels , as he was ministering to people, it would say he was moved with ‘compassion’. That is the secret key. Compassion is ‘love in action’.

Most people are afraid to prophecy to people because they think they will get it wrong. They are afraid they will ‘mis-hear’ something and then the person will look at them like they are stupid. This mentality is 100% wrong because instead of thinking about the other person, you are concerned only about yourself, rooted in selfishness (the direct opposite of love). However if you focus on them, loving them, and blessing them, and being an encouragement to them, you will NEVER be wrong.

And as you love as Christ loves them, the Holy Spirit will begin to give you words of knowledge and other gifts so that you can more effectively minister to them. Always know that it is never about you, it is always about them. An easy way to spot the enemy is if you hear, ‘what if…’.(what if I heard incorrectly, what if they don’t receive what I’m saying, what if I lay hands and it doesn’t work, etc) This is always his attempt to get you to focus on yourself instead of the one needing ministering.

So when I was at the prophetic conference, in one session I was prophesying to people for about 2 hours straight, and while I was prophesying, the love of God completely overwhelmed me. It was as if God allowed me to share His heart, to see the people as He saw them. I didn’t care if I was accurate about the words of knowledge, if they received what I said or if they would do something about the prophetic words they were receiving; all I cared about was loving them, encouraging them, and uplifting them. This is how Jesus sees people.

Moving by compassion and focusing on love is the secret key to prophecy. God loves people SO much, and as you tap into that love, you will find yourself flowing in the Spirit as you never have before, hearing things you never heard before, and operating on a level that totally baffles the world. That is why Paul is able to say, Love never fails.

Here are some easy points to remember:
1. Be moved with compassion
2. It’s NOT about you
3. Encourage, uplift, exhort
4. Practice Practice Practice (the more you practice, the more confident you will become and you will be able to clearly hear what the Holy Spirit is saying)
5. Protect your hearing (if you are listening to ungoldly radio and TV all day you will not have the confidence that what you are hearing is of God, it is contaminating your spirit) Stay in the Word!
6. Don’t be afraid to take risks! (As you grow, don’t be afraid stretch out and give names or places the Holy Spirit will give you as you are ministering)

God wants to reach out to people far more than we allow Him to. There are probably only a handful of people out there that truly ‘go into all the world’, so when someone steps out, heaven is going to back you 100%. Stop having fear of yourself and allow the Holy Spirit to totally use you, He has been waiting on you, and the people have been waiting for you.

Will you go?

Its Not About The Preacher

A lot of confusion arises when we discuss healings, signs, and wonders. Most of this confusion comes from centuries of bad teaching which has infected the church. God’s goal for us Christians is to mature by reading the Word of God for ourselves and act upon what we just read. By doing this we will become mature Christians and ‘be like’ Christ. It is not God’s will that we go from miracle crusade to miracle crusade and get prophesied to by other believers. The healing/miracle crusades are for the unbelievers to believe. The signs and wonders are so that the unbelievers will begin to study the Word and become disciples of Jesus themselves.

So that being said, does God confirm the preacher, or man/woman of God with signs and wonders? No. The intention from God was never to get you to believe the man/woman but to focus on God and His Word. God does not confirm the person, he confirms His Word with signs and wonders. If an unbeliever acts upon the Word, people will get healed, even though he has no relationship with Jesus.

What? You mean to tell me an unbeliever can perform miracles according to the Word? That’s exactly what Jesus was explaining when he said many will come before Him and say, ‘Didn’t we prophesy in your name?’ and ‘Didn’t we cast out demons in your name?’ Yes, many will do this. There are many corrupt preachers who will work healings, signs, and wonders effectively and fall in this category.

The goal of Demonstrate It Ministries  is to assist genuine followers of Christ to minister to the lost by using healings, signs, and wonders. But once you learn how to operate this way, the bar is raised. The temptation arises for you to take the gifts of the Holy Spirit and try to unrighteously profit of them. I’m sure you have seen a preacher on late night TV trying to sell you a healing cloth or healing water from Israel as a point of contact. The miracle is real and the healing works, but the one doing it could have a corrupted heart. Jesus said freely you have received, so freely give. Once you start down this road of charging to prophesy or charging to heal, you are going down the road of psychics, medium, and witchcraft.

So the focus is on the Word, not the preacher. Anyone can work the miracles. God wants people to believe His Word. When you start to look at the preacher, you are bound to be disappointed. Even in Jesus’ ministry days, there were those with him performing miracles that were not on board with him. Today, we would not consider Judas a genuine man of God, but he was right there with Jesus healing the sick and performing miracles. If Judas was alive today he would probably have a global healing ministry, 2 million Twitter followers, and a show on TBN. And then millions would be heartbroken when a big scandal breaks out because his heart was corrupt all along.

In fact, how many of the 72 that went out with Jesus raising the dead and curing the sick do we hear about after their expedition? They certainly were not with Him as He was being crucified.
Be a genuine disciple of Christ, and use the gift of the Holy Spirit to win the lost souls for Christ.

If more Christians moved in signs and wonders there would not be such a huge spotlight on the handful of Christians who do. It would become expected and the focus would return back to Jesus instead of the preacher.

In Acts 17:6, the Greeks said, ‘Those who have turned the world upside down have come here also.’ Simply hearing about the followers of Jesus coming to their town, the Greeks knew something amazing was about to happen.

If millions of Christians are laying hands on the sick, the few bad apples would not stand out. The world would again have to take notice of the message!
